The Moore Police Department in Oklahoma has recommended three prostitution-related charges against State Sen. Ralph Shortey (R-OK). The charges are: soliciting prostitution of a minor, prostitution within 1,000 feet of a church and transporting for the purpose of prostitution.
On March 8, Shortey checked in at a Super 8 Motel in Moore and checked out on March 9. When checking in, Shortey asked for a room with two beds. The Moore Police Department went to the motel for a welfare check and found a juvenile male in a room with an adult male, who’s now been confirmed as Shortey.
News outlets reported the juvenile male as being 16-17 years old. Oklahoma’s legal consent age is 16, which makes it unclear why Shortey is charged with soliciting prostitution of a minor.
Shortey, 35, has been married to his highschool girlfriend, Jennifer since 2002. They have two children.
The Oklahoma Senate have revoked almost all of Shortey’s privileges as a lawmaker following this investigation.
Apart from being a Trump supporter, Shortey introduced a bill in Oklahoma that prohibits manufacturing and or selling “food or any other product intended for human consumption which contains aborted human fetuses in the ingredients or which used aborted human fetuses in the research or development of any of the ingredients.”
In 2016, Oklahoman lawmakers introduced 26 anti-LGBT bills, the largest number of anti-LGBT bills the country had seen since 23 anti-LGBT bills that were filed in Texas in 2015.
